London Stadium achieves Friendly WiFi certification

London Stadium

London Stadium is an iconic multi-use venue in east London, first built to host the 2012 Olympic Games, sitting in the heart of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Now the fabulous Stadium is home to West Ham United and UK Athletics, and hosts music, sporting and hospitality events throughout the year. Playing a key part of the local community, London Stadium has the third largest capacity in the Premier League at 62,500 and can host up to 80,000 attendees for music and entertainment events.

Highlights include being the home of MLB in Europe, having hosted matches in 2019, 2023 and again this summer, with a further weekend of baseball to come in 2026. Performers like the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N’ Roses and Beyoncé have graced the stage during the summer months.

The Stadium benefits for excellent transport networks and is promoted as a public transport venue, served by Stratford Station and Stratford International, hubs for multiple lines feeding the capital.

As one of the major venues on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London Stadium shares with the Park the philosophy of being a venue for all, providing a fully inclusive and equal experience for all visitors. The venue has a wide range of features, facilities and services to support all disabled customers and families with accessibility needs. It is truly a versatile Stadium and one of the best multi-use venues in the world.

As part of the great facilities provided at the Stadium, the team were passionate about being able to provide a first-class online journey for visitors, enjoying events or sharing experiences with friends and family, in addition to enabling visitors to stay connected whilst visiting the Stadium for whatever the reason. Safety is paramount at such a large venue and being safe online was a priority for the team responsible for implementing the venue wide public Wi-Fi service.

They have strived to create a network that allows as many visitors as possible to enjoy the Wi-Fi service and took the decision to become Friendly Wi-Fi certified to show that everyone at the venue will share a safe and comfortable browsing experience – free from exposure to indecent and harmful material. Important to London Stadium as it provides family events and welcomes young fans to sporting matches. The free Wi-Fi at the venue has proved extremely popular with visitors, with connections regularly more than 35% of the capacity on the network, with up to 40k users at any one time.

Bev Smith, Director at Friendly WiFi added to the news: “We have worked with the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for some years now as a Friendly Wi-Fi certified attraction, and with the development of their public Wi-Fi service, are thrilled to now also be working with London Stadium. The team were focussed on providing a great WiFi experience to all visitors but remained dedicated to providing a safe and filtered Wi-Fi journey to protect users, families and children. Being online socially at key events and matches is key and I applaud London Stadium for ensuring that this experience is a good one and free from inappropriate material.”

Graham Gilmore, CEO of London Stadium, said: “The safety and wellbeing of our visitors is paramount to all of us at London Stadium, this includes all users of our fast and free Wi-Fi. This Friendly Wi-Fi certification ensures that every care has been taken to block inappropriate content, giving peace of mind to all who attend our events that the Wi-Fi that they are accessing is filtered and safe. I would like to thank our IT team and Friendly Wi-Fi for carrying out the necessary work and ensuring we maintain the certification for years to come.”
